Mary Kay is committed to health and nutrition
THE recent launch of the Mary Kay (China) Science and Technology Center in Shanghai marked a huge step forward for the iconic beauty company, expanding its focus on cosmetics and beauty products, to the health and nutrition market.
Located in the Zhangjiang National Science and Technology park, dubbed China’s valley of pharmaceuticals, the Center now includes five laboratories: the Bioactivity Lab, Analytical and Phytochemistry Lab, Analytical Precision Instrument Room, Formula Lab, and Consumer Products Lab. Scientists conduct various product tests in these labs to evaluate and scale up for manufacturing products that will improve immunity or metabolism, and keep bones and intestines healthy.
“We hope every Chinese family can have at least one person knowledgeable about health and nutrition,” said Paul Mak, Mary Kay China President. Mak expected the Center will enable Mary Kay to be a market leader in the sector.
In 2017, Mary Kay China announced the expansion of its business into the health and nutrition market after launching products to help sleep, digestion and boost the immune system. The decision has extended its potential customers from women, to all health-conscious individuals. This signaled a major strategy for the Dallas-based Mary Kay, with China as its largest market since 2013.
Local media quoted Mak saying that “the health sector of Mary Kay China is expected to grow even larger than the cosmetic unit, as the latter mostly appeals to female consumers.”
The company has rolled out health products, such as “Daily Benefits” that focuses on anti-oxidation. To demonstrate its commitment to health and wellness, Mary Kay also established its first production center for health products in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
To date, renowned scientists from leading academic institutions have collaborated with Mary Kay China.
