How can students acquire a good reading habit?

Nowadays, students seem to be increasingly glued to their phones. Books are a great way to help fight that addiction, but how can students get a good reading habit?

If you want to start reading and aren’t quite sure where to go, I recommend looking for things that interest you. It doesn’t matter what form of text it is, so long as it’s interesting. A good place to start are online articles. There are many websites with a variety of topics, ranging from animals to politics. Once you’re comfortable with reading short pieces of text, move on to short novels or magazines. It’s recommended you pick books with awards, because that’s probably a safe bet. Another good way to get book recommendations is to visit your librarian and ask. Perhaps you have a friend or family member who really loves books. Ask them about it too.

Longer pieces of text and thick novels may seem intimidating, but an important thing to remember is that you don’t have to read the whole thing in one day.

What you have to remember to do is to be consistent. Read a little every day. It doesn’t matter if it’s 10 minutes or 30, so long as you actually sit down and read. Something that can help with this is if you make yourself a small cozy, reading corner so you can get in the mood to read. Also, bring your book everywhere. I mean it. Read it on the plane, in queues, instead of looking at your phone. It helps. It really does.
