Is the Great Depression about to hit? Anouska Panda

Sid Harvard hummed his favorite song as he knocked on the door where John Mayfield, his best friend, lived. Sid was a wealthy but a kind-hearted and diligent man who was nearing his 40s. Sid lived with his family on Wall Street, where he worked in the State Bank, a few blocks away from his home. He had two kids, Mary and Jane and a charming wife named Juliet. As the door opened, John looked at Sid and gave him his warm smile. John was 50 and always dressed in the fanciest and expensive clothes one could buy. He also had the highest salary at work, at the State Bank with Sid.

“Ready to go?” Sid asked. John nodded and they left the building, exuberant. Why, do you ask? Because today was the day they would get their monthly salary of US$5,000. Bankers get three times more than their colleagues. As John and Sid entered Main Street, they were astonished to see a crowd of people teeming in the area. Sid frowned. “Wow. Is there something wrong?” John shrugged. “Only one way to find out.” They pushed through the overcrowded street, trying to find the bank as people shouted, moaned and groaned at them.
