Eye surgery can change your life
Eye surgery for myopia and presbyopia is available in the city to offer patients, especially those who are young or middle-aged refractive therapy covering their whole life.
The new concept comes from the rising number of people with myopia and the advanced arrival of presbyopia.
There are some people in their 30s suffering tardive myopia.
“The therapy for refractive treatment also should change under the new conditions and we want to develop a therapy concerning both myopia and presbyopia to allow people to have a comfortable life and clear vision in a long term,” said Dr Ke Bilian from the Shanghai General Hospital.
The hospital introduced a surgery to offer correction to both myopia and presbyopia at the time.
Studies have found there are 500 million people suffering myopia in China.
About 90 percent of people aged 18 and above have myopia, while some people start to develop tardive myopia at 30.
At the same time, about 81 percent of Chinese over 50 suffer persbyopia and the age for developing the disease has been coming down in recent years.
“Young and middle-aged people are at risk from both myopia and presbyopia,” Ke said.
“In addition to physical conditions, the long-time exposure to various electronic devices and screens is one of the important reasons for these eye problems and the reasons for people developing symptoms earlier.”
The new concept of whole-life refractive therapy is to correct both myopia and presbyopia during one surgery using SMILE 3.0 + MEL 90 system after a careful and individualized evaluation to find a most suitable vision for each patient so they can enjoy stable and clear vision for a long time.
“With the development of medical technology and people’s demand for high-end optical service, the new treatment is being accepted by more patients,” Ke added.
