Yiwu’s Ctrip partnership
The Yiwu County of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has linked up with online travel service operator Ctrip to promote the historical northwestern region. A tourism festival of Yiwu, themed on the huyang trees (diversifolius poplar), the sole surviving tree species in the Taklamakan Desert, has been held in Shanghai to promote the region. The county, under the jurisdiction of Hami City, 500 kilometers east of Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang and on the northern side of Tianshan Mountain, features historical sites, charming landscapes and an abundant mineral resources. The county also has the tallest glacier in Asia and a popular colorful salt lake. A historical castle, once used by Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) armies, has been well-preserved. The county government has also teamed up with Ctrip’s regional travel service “Daozhanyou” to assist in transporting tourists from the airport and railway station.
