In box seat for jail after shocking theft

FIVE State Grid workers have been detained for allegedly stealing an electricity box worth 10,000 yuan (US$1,440), police said.

The company filed a report with police in Baoshan District on October 1 after a large electricity box installed on a lamp post in a compound on Nanda Road went missing.

The electricity box is more than 1 cubic meter in size and was installed some 3 meters above the ground.

It would require professional tools to remove and transport away.

Since there were no surveillance camera within the compound where the box was located, police looked at footage from cameras around the area. They spotted a State Grid vehicle in the area a few days before the theft.

Police recovered the stolen electricity box and the name of one of the workers on a sales list from a recycling station near where the National Grid office is located. The five repairmen involved in the theft have allegedly confessed.
