Macau Films In The Round

A CINEMA with a 360-degree screen will be a highlight of the Macau Pavilion during the 2010 Expo in Shanghai, officials said at an Expo forum in Macau yesterday.

Visitors will take an escalator in the pavilion's atrium to watch films displayed on the huge screen, said Ieong Pou Yee, director of the Office Preparation of Macau's Participation in the Expo.

The forum had the theme: "Sustainable Development, Better City" and it was being held by the 2010 World Exposition Executive Committee and the Macau Special Administrative Region government. Similar meetings will be held in Hong Kong and Singapore later this week.

"Shanghai will strive to create a safe environment to make the Expo a successful, wonderful and impressive event," said Zhou Hanmin, deputy director of the 2010 World Expo Shanghai Executive Committee at the forum.

The Macau pavilion will be in the shape of a rabbit lantern and will be situated near the China Pavilion and the Hong Kong Pavilion, Ieong said.

"The interesting and lovely outlook of the rabbit latten will attract kids and their parents," she said.

The head and tail of the rabbit will be inflatable balloons which can sway to catch the attention of visitors.

The pavilion will be 19.99 meters in height, to mark the transfer of sovereignty of Macau from the Portuguese Republic to the People's Republic of China in 1999.
