Mask firm working overtime

A MASK manufacturer on the outskirts of Shanghai is working around the clock to produce around 40,000 products a day amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Shanghai Yuanqin Purification in Fengxian District’s Qingcun Town makes masks for Honeywell and 3M as well as its own brand.

The KN95 mask it produces can filter up to 95 percent of particles and has been listed as effective protection against the virus.

All the masks it produces have been under unified government allocation to stabilize market price and ensure supplies to medical care personnel and others in need, said Liao Huolin, the company’s board chairman.

Over 30 workers, some of them recalled from their Spring Festival holiday and nearby villagers, are working overtime to ensure production. The company has received orders for 5 million masks, Liao said.

However, a core material for the KN95 mask is in short supply. The company said it can maintain production until January 27 for over 100,000 new masks with manufacturing expected to resume by February.

Medical-style masks have sold out at many pharmacies and supermarkets in Shanghai. Honeywell has said it’s increasing its production capacity and was working with all parties to meet demand.

Market regulation administration has said it is monitoring prices closely.
