All aboard as waiting time cut

SIX-CARRIAGE trains are set to begin trial operations on Metro Line 5 from Saturday between Xinzhuang Station and Dongchuan Road Station, reducing the wait time.

This is thanks to the second phase of the upgrading of the signal system, which is part of the construction of the south extension of the line, said Shentong Metro Group.

The waiting time between Xinzhuang and Dongchuan Road stations during rush hours on workdays will be reduced to four minutes from four and a half minutes.

Four-carriage trains will continue operating from Dongchuan Road Station to the Minhang Development Zone Station. Passengers will need to transfer.

From Saturday, the first trains of Line 5 will depart from Xinzhuang Station and Minhang Development Zone Station at 5:50am, 10 minutes earlier than before.

The departure times of the last trains from Dongchuan Road Station will also be changed. The last to Xinzhuang Station will leave at 10:23pm. The last to Minhang Development Zone Station will leave at 10:51pm.
