Urbanization at the expense of peasants a curse

IT is reported that our urban areas have expanded by 60 percent between 2000 and 2010, far exceeding the growth of the urban population.
The orderly acceleration of urbanization indeed plays a vital role in narrowing the urban-rural gap since it can bring large rural migration to well-developed cities. But some regional governments simply consider urbanization as urban sprawl by turning villages to cities, without taking the trouble of turning villagers into true urban citizens.
Driven by eagerness for quick success and instant benefits, they take over vast tracts of farmland for real estate projects in an attempt to build large cities and to impress their superiors.
Such practice, rather than truly urbanizing peasants, is expanding cities physically at the expense of rural people.
