Brewers, Cubs in playoffs
Jhoulys Chacin threw five shutout innings as the Milwaukee Brewers punched their ticket to the Major League Baseball postseason with a 2-1 win over the St Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The Brewers improved to 92-67 on the season to earn their first playoff spot in 7 years. They are guaranteed at least a spot in the National League wildcard game. Milwaukee came into the contest a half-game behind the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central and 3 1/2 games ahead of Colorado for the top wildcard slot. The Cubs also claimed a playoff spot because of the Cardinals’ loss. St Louis dropped to 87-71 overall.
