Unique show on Shanghai stage
RECOGNIZED as one of China’s leading performers, Li Yugang is coming to Shanghai with his unique stage opera.
Born in 1978 in Jilin Province, Li is a singer and performer in the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater, as well as a member of the National Youth Federation.
Rising to fame after winning third place in “Star Boulevard,” a Chinese talent competition show, Li specializes in nandan roles, where men play female roles in Peking Opera.
Combining traditional Chinese opera with modern singing and acting in his performance, Li illustrates feminine beauty and art from his uniquely male perspective.
Since his debut in 2006, Li has been exploring different fields like music, stage acting, literature and philosophy, and is responsible for iconic masterpieces including stage performance like “The New Drunken Beauty,” “The Bell for Dream Chasing,” “Once Upon a Time in Shanghai” and “Lady Zhaojun,” as well as singles like “Happened to Meet You.”
Dubbed a “humble and modest artist,” Li is committed to making China’s rich cultural heritage even more renowned and accessible not only to the younger generation, but also to audiences all over the world.
