It’s a wrap: Dyson’s new styler released

After working with 1,600 kilometers of real human hair over six years, spending US$31.6 million on research and development involving 230 engineers, UK home appliance giant Dyson yesterday unveiled its new styling device in China.

With a new digital motor, the Dyson Airwrap offers a “healthy” method to straighten or dry hair with less heat, using one-click optional attachments. To be released on October 24, it will sell for 3,690 yuan (US$534), depending on accessories. Dyson products typically sell for about 10 times the cost of other consumer electronics brands.

The British company that reinvented the vacuum, said it made record earnings of 801 million pounds (US$1.1 billion) last year after Asian consumers bought more of its battery-powered technology to clean the surfaces and the air in their homes.

China’s middle class is expanding and analysts said the product meets the wave of consumption upgrade in China.
