Indian shelling kills Pakistani woman

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani officials said Sunday that Indian troops killed a Pakistani woman in the latest cross- border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region.

An Indian mortar shell landed on a house in Nikyal sector early Sunday, also injuring a child and causing damage to the house, Assistant Commissioner in the area Ayub Khan said.

Khan said that Indian troops resorted to unprovoked shelling on civilian houses near the LoC, which divides the two countries in Kashmir.

The exchange of fire have been escalated along the LoC in recent days despite a ceasefire declared by both countries in 2003.

Both countries accused each other of violating ceasefire which claimed lives of soldiers on both sides.
