2 Indian policemen injured in Pakistani firing in Kashmir

NEW DELHI, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani troops opened fire and pounded 14 forward Indian posts and civilian areas in Indian- controlled Kashmir Friday night and Saturday morning, injuring at least two Indian policemen, said local media.

The Press Trust of India quoted police in Jammu, Indian- controlled Kashmir, as saying there was firing and shelling of mortar bombs along the international border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts during the night.

India's Border Security Force troops guarding the borderline with Pakistan took positions and retaliated, resulting in exchanges which stopped Saturday morning, said the report.

A total of nine persons, including five civilians, have been injured in Pakistan firing and shelling in the past two days, said the report.

Indian Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will visit forward areas along the international border to review the security situation next Tuesday.
