The 27th SEA Games to open in Myanmar

NAY PYI TAW, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The official opening ceremony of 27th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games will begin at 6 p.m. (local time) in Nay Pyi Taw's 30,000-seat Wunna Theikdi Stadium on Wednesday.

The torch lit at Yangon's Thuwunna Indoor Stadium is on the way to Nay Pyi Taw, 320 kilometers north of Yangon.

Legendary SEA Games medalists from decades ago to the present day will carry the torch in relays from Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw by motor vehicles.

The three-hour opening ceremony will be highlighted by a performance involving 9,000 people.

Fixed to the east of Wunna Theikdi Stadium are five big LED boards and the projector matting will effect beautiful springs and flower beds on the pitch and on the whole stadium.

The artists from the Art University and middle-and-high-school girls all over Myanmar will do count-down with Myanmar traditional dances while the pillars of Pagan dynasty that will appear on the pitch will make up a classical taste.

"We will see the grandeur that we have never seen in Myanmar," said Zinyaw Maung Maung, the academy-winning director who is the organizer of the project.

Instead of using customary power supply, generators will be used to provide electricity for the ceremony in case of power shortage that tends to happen in Myanmar.

Myanmar SEA Games will feature over 9,000 athletes from 11 SEAN countries and regions competing in 33 sports.

The games will take place from Dec. 4-22 in four places - Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Ngwe Saung beach.

Myanmar last hosted the SEA Games in 1969, which saw the hosts top the total medal tally with 57 gold medals.
