259 Senegalese from Central African Republic arrive in Dakar

DAKAR, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- The first group of 259 Senegalese nationals from Central African Republic arrived in Dakar on Wednesday aboard a special flight, an official source has said.

The group, comprising mostly women and children, was welcomed by President Macky Sall upon arrival at the Dakar airport.

The president expressed his "solidarity and sympathy" to the returnees on behalf of the whole nation.

"The operation was not easy because of the insecurity situation in Bangui," Sall said.

According to the Senegalese president, the second plane carrying Senegalese nationals living in Central African Republic is expected to arrive in Dakar on Thursday with 162 people.

The returnees thanked the Senegalese authorities and appealed for speedy action to bring back their fellow citizens trapped in clashes in Central African Republic.
