Two policemen killed in checkpost attack in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- At least two policemen were killed and four others injured in two separate attacks on checkpost in south and northwest Pakistan on Thursday, local media reported.

Geo TV said that in the southern port city of Karachi, some unknown militants opened fire at a police checkpost in Shafiq round about area.

Police said that a head constable and a constable were performing duties at the checkpost when the militants shot them dead and fled the scene.

Two passersby were injured during the shootout between police and militants, who were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital.

In a separate incident in northwest Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, two policemen were injured in a bomb attack.

Police said that some unknown militants detonated a remote controlled explosive device near a checkpost, injuring two policemen who were admitted to a nearby hospital where both of them were reportedly in critical condition.
