YANGON, July 3 (Xinhua) -- At least two persons were killed and 14 others injured in a series of communal violence occurred between Buddhists and Muslims over the past two days in Myanmar's second largest city Mandalay, according to local official sources Thursday.
A Buddhist man, was killed on Wednesday's night while a Muslim man was killed on Thursday early morning, the sources said.
The violence starting from Tuesday night, which left motor vehicles and shops destroyed, occurred when hundreds of rioters attacked a tea shop in the same township after Muslim owner of a teashop was prosecuted for a rape case.
Police have detained four suspected attackers involved in the incident.
Situation in Mandalay was under control and schools and market kept opening except Muslim owners' were closed, local sources said.
The Mandalay Police Force said they are investigating the riot and will take action against those involved in the attack.
