Japanese cabinet's approval rating hits lowest level: poll

TOKYO, July 18 (Xinhua) -- A latest survey conducted by Japan' s Jiji News Agency showed Friday that the approval rating for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's Cabinet slipped 6.4 percentage points from the previous one, hitting the lowest level since its launch in December 2012.

In the nationwide survey conducted from July 11 to July 14, 44. 6 percent of respondents expressed support for Abe's Cabinet, while 34.6 percent of them disapproved of its performance.

The cabinet made a landmark decision on July 1 to allow the country to exercise the right to collective self-defense. Regarding this major defense policy change, 51.6 percent people said no, only 33.4 percent showed approval.

In terms of support rate for political parties, Abe's ruling Liberal Democratic party (LDP) stood at 23.1 percent, down 4.1 percentage points from last month, a record low since the LDP took power.

The Jiji News interviewed about 2,000 adults, with 65.3 percent giving valid answers.
