BiH builds new state prison to solve crowdedness

SARAJEVO, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Monday began to construct a new state prison in a bid to solve the problem of crowded cells.

The prison, located in East Ilidza Municipality near Sarajevo, could admit some 300 convicts and 50 detainees by 2016, local officials said.

Srdan Radulj, deputy Justice Minister, said the million-dollar facility will help to deal with the problem of prions being overcrowded and some convicts left on the streets. He added that the project was long-waited.

The Council of Europe provided loans for the project, local media reported.

Prisons and detention centers across the Balkan state are crowded because of lack of proper facilities.
