World Bank invests 32 mln euros to improve Albanian health system

TIRANA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank allocated 32 million euros (34.09 million U.S. dollars) to improve the efficiency of care in Albanian hospitals, according to Albanian Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj and World Bank country manager Tahseen Sayed.

"A total of 8 million euros is expected to be spent on pediatric services," Beqaj said on Tuesday.

Sayed said: "It is very important that everyone in Albania to have access to health care, regardless of their economic background."

The Albanian government will also invest 4 million euros in this project.

The project will be implemented by the Albanian Ministry of Health and is scheduled to end in February 2021.

Due to this project, the health budget in Albania rose over 400 million U.S. dollars for the first time, making up 2.8 percent of GDP.
