Brunei condemns deadly Jakarta attack

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Brunei condemned the attacks in Indonesia's capital of Jakarta, which have left seven people dead and 20 others injured, the state Radio Television Brunei (RTB) said on Friday.

The RTB said Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah has sent a message of condolences to Indonesian President Joko Widodo following the violent attacks in Jakarta.

In the message to President Widodo, the Sultan was deeply shocked by the news of the attacks.

"Brunei joins others in condemning the criminal act of violence and stand in solidarity with the Indonesian people at this difficult time," he said.

Bomb explosions and gun fires took place in downtown Jakarta Thursday, killing seven people and injuring 20 others. Indonesian police blamed terror group Islamic State for the attacks.
