Inclusive approach to software

SOFTWARE and IT service provider VMware Inc is investing heavily in diversity and inclusion programs to improve the participation of women in the industry as well as provide a fair and safe workplace.

VMware aims to encourage more female talent to the IT industry and “let their voices to be heard” with career opportunities and an open culture, Pamela Cass, vice president of marketing for VMware Asia Pacific, said in Shanghai yesterday.

VMware already sponsors the Women Who Code event, which attracts engineers from Microsoft and Baidu. It has been held in Shanghai, Beijing and Bangalore.

VMware’s existing diversity and inclusion programs cover not only women, but also people with disabilities, the LGBT community, and different races.

In the past, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has said he is worried about the “male dominated culture” of Silicon Valley, and wants more gender diversity.
