Taikang Life aims new business

TAIKANG Life Insurance Co will start selling its Final Expense Insurance in Shanghai next month to tap the funeral services market.
The policies, to be sold to seniors at 18,000 yuan and 38,000 yuan, will ensure policy-holders standard or luxury funeral services after they pass away. The cost of such services starts from 35,000 yuan.
Otherwise, policy holders can give up the services and receive cash compensation from the insurer at annual returns of 3 percent after they pass away.
The funeral services will be provided by Taikang’s newly set-up unit Ai You Hui, a platform that can provide both online and offline funeral services.
Ai You Hui will team up with offline funeral service providers to cover the whole process of the funeral and online services such as broadcast of memorial meeting and virtual tomb visiting.
The unit is part of Taikang’s ambition to cover life circle services that include elderly care and hospitals to retain clients and expand revenue.
The insurer also plans to run their own cemeteries to complete the services.
