US food festival opens in Shanghai
THE first US Food Festival, hosted by the US Food Export Association and the US Consulate General in Shanghai, opens in the city. The event will run through January 10 in outlets of the G-Super under the Greenland Group. Customers are offered free taste of American food, including cheese, nuts, biscuits, chips, drinks and various other snacks, which are also sold with lower prices and gifts.
Zechariah Dontaye Henderson, deputy director at the Agricultural Trade Office of the US consulate, said the US is seeking to further lift its exports of agricultural products to China.
“Chinese people have increasing demand for quality food, in particular during a time to celebrate the New Year and the Chinese Lunar New Year,” Henderson said.
Earlier this month, the American Pistachio Growers also invited growers of the “happy nuts” to Shanghai. The association said the US exports about 65 percent of its pistachios, of which one-fourth are shipped to China. The amount of exports to China will increase further in the future with the rising production.
