Auto-parts makers on expansion drive
Auto-parts makers are on an expansion drive in China as it tries to keep pace with the newer car models being unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2011 show.
Visteon Corp, which makes electronics, interiors and lighting products for vehicles, plans to open or expand seven facilities in China this year, Chairman and CEO Donald Stebbins has said.
The company generated 56 percent of sales from the Asia-Pacific region with China contributing half of that.
Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp is also building an engine valve plant in east China's Shandong Province as it expects the country's light vehicle production units to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 8 percent by 2014.
The company is "aware of the rising needs for energy-saving solutions from China market," said Kenneth Davis, president of Eaton's vehicle unit.
Germany's Continental plans to increase staff in China by 25 percent this year and to open two new plants - a tire plant in Anhui Province and an electronics factory for commercial vehicles in Shandong - in the second quarter of this year, said Jay Kunkel, head of Continental China.
South Korea tire maker Hankook will also break ground for its third China plant next month in Chongqing Municipality to increase its supplies to the Chinese market, said Huh Ki-youl, CEO of its China regional headquarters.
