BMW announced today it will recall 120,246 imported and domestically produced vehicles in China to fix problems in vehicle batteries, according to General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
The recall, starting from May 10, will affect 118,256 units of BMW 5-Series sedans produced by its Chinese joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive from March, 2003 to September 2010 and 381 units of BMW 5-Series imported during the same period.
Other models to be retrieved include 1,046 units of imported BMW 6-Series coupes manufactured between September 2003 to July, 2010 in addition to 563 BMW 6-Series cabriolet models made from December, 2003 to July, 2010.
BMW said faulty batteries may stall the engine and cause fires under extreme cases.
BWM dealers will contact related customers starting from April 26 for free upgrades. For more details, customers could contact the BMW hotline 4008006666 or check the website www.aqsiq.gov.cn.
The latest recall comes two months after it announced the retrieval of 3,406 imported Mini Cooper models in China to fix faulty water pumps as part of its global recall of 235,000 units.
