Shanghai VW opens Yizheng plant
SHANGHAI Volkswagen, the joint venture between German carmaker Volkswagen and its Chinese partner SAIC Motor, yesterday launched its branch in Yizheng, Jiangsu Province, as its first standardized plant in China.
Covering 1.28 million square meters, the facility comprises of body and painting shops, general assembly line, as well as technical, training, energy, vehicle delivery and parts distribution centers. After two years of construction, the plant saw its first car - a New Polo - roll off the production line yesterday. With an annual capacity of 300,000 units, it will make cars under the Volkswagen and Skoda brands.
