Cross-border bankcard deals up 21% during holiday

China's cross-border bankcard transaction during the seven-day National Day holiday grew 21 percent from a year ago with an increasing number of outbound travelers.

Domestic card owners' interbank transaction added 39 percent from a year earlier, according to a report by China UnionPay, the country's sole bankcard transaction firm.

Transaction size at travel-related merchandise and ticket offices also climbed higher. Spending at domestic gas stations grew 82 percent and highway passenger transportation tickets sales also added 80 percent.

Transaction volume at supermarkets and department stores rose 34 percent and 22 percent, respectively.
