Hilton stays upbeat
HILTON Worldwide remains upbeat about its growth in China despite a domestic slowing economy and sees huge prospects in the mid-scale hotel market where demand from leisure travellers is growing rapidly, a senior executive said yesterday.
“We have 64 hotels operating now around the country across five brands, and our development pipeline stands at 181 hotels, or nearly tripling our existing portfolio,” said Bruce McKenzie, senior vice president for operations in China and Mongolia of Hilton Worldwide. “Growth still exists across all segments but the mid-scale market is where the strongest growth will be seen.”
Hilton will open three hotels in China next year — one Waldorf Astoria hotel in Chengdu and one Conrad hotel each in Xiamen and Guangzhou.
