Women in city spend more Christmas gifts for business partners than men do

WOMEN in Shanghai tend to spend more on Christmas gifts for business partners than men do, United Overseas Bank said in a consumer spending report today.

The Singapore-based bank said in an emailed report that 500 people with a monthly income above 8,000 yuan (US$1,308) were surveyed last month on their budgets for Christmas gifts.

The three most wanted Christmas gifts by women in Shanghai are gift vouchers, perfume and cosmetics. And they like to give away cosmetics, chocolates and perfume.

Men most wanted gift vouchers, champagne and wines, and prepaid credit cards. And they usually buy chocolates, cosmetics and perfume as gifts for others.

The least desired gifts by both women and men are pets and accessories, said the report.

The respondents of the survey plan to spend 2,000 yuan on average for business partners and bosses, higher than the 1,452 yuan for themselves, and 1,403 yuan for their spouse or companion.

Women tend to spend 60 percent more on business partners than they spend on others, while the figure for men is only 30 percent.
