Taiwan residents can register individual businesses next week
RESIDENTS of Taiwan will be allowed to register individual businesses in nine Chinese mainland regions starting from January, according to a mainland spokesman yesterday.
Beijing, Chongqing and Shanghai as well as Fujian, Guangdong, Hubei, Jiangsu, Sichuan and Zhejiang provinces will allow Taiwan-based businesses in the catering services and retail industries to register from Monday, Yang Yi, a spokesman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a regular press briefing.
Yang also said the first batch of 3,100 kilograms of fresh pears from Taiwan have been selling well on the mainland since the market was opened on December 14 to pears from Taiwan.
He noted that the mainland will make every possible effort to support Taiwan-funded enterprises, especially small- and mid-sized firms, and particularly assist them amid the eurozone debt crisis which has affected them badly.
In addition to favorable policies, the mainland will offer more financing services for Taiwan enterprises and encourage them to list publicly, he added.
The mainland will also help Taiwan businesses upgrade operations by offering financial support and business suggestions, he said.
Furthermore, the mainland encourages Taiwanese enterprises and research institutions to make scientific innovations, Yang added.
He also called for more cooperation between Taiwan enterprises and their mainland partners.
