Iraqi contract
CHINA'S Shanghai Electric Group Co has won a US$1.1 billion contract to expand a natural gas-fired power plant it is building in Zubaidiyeh, southeast of Baghdad, an Iraqi Electricity Ministry official said.
Shanghai Electric is due to add two 610-megawatt generators in 49 months, Majed Mahdi, the ministry's director-general of projects, said in a telephone interview yesterday. The company is installing four turbines of 320 megawatts each under a separate US$924 million contract, he said. The ministry said the new turbines may operate by the end 2011.
