Top utility official investigated

A top official with state power company Guangdong Power Grid Corporation is being investigated for severe violation of Party rules, China’s top disciplinary body said yesterday.

Wu Zhouchun, former general manager of Guangdong Power Grid, has been placed under investigation, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the Ministry of Supervision said on their official websites, without revealing more details.

Wu, 63, has worked in a number of power companies within the State Grid system after he graduated from South China University of Technology in 1980. He was appointed head of the Zhanjiang Power Supply Bureau in 1984.

A native of Zhanjiang, he was also named top entrepreneur and top factory manager from 1987 to 1989 in Zhanjiang which is located in Guangdong Province.
