Weak economy slows China's power consumption growth
CHINA'S power consumption growth slowed further last month, providing fresh evidence that industrial activity remained weak amid an economic slowdown.
Electricity use rose 2.9 percent to 405.1 billion kilowatt-hours in September from a year earlier, down from 3.6 percent in August, according to data released by the National Energy Administration today.
The growth rate is well below the double-digit expansion in 2011 and 2010.
Electricity consumption gained 4.8 percent in the first nine months of the year, the data showed.
Power use by the industrial sector, which accounts for 70 percent of total consumption, edged up 1 percent in September, the data showed.
