JPMorgan CEO has cancer, set for treatment

JAMIE Dimon, the chief executive at JPMorgan Chase, announced Tuesday that he has throat cancer and will remain on the job as he seeks treatment.
"The good news is that the prognosis from my doctors is excellent, the cancer was caught quickly, and my condition is curable," Dimon, 58, said in a letter to employees and shareholders.
The cancer is limited to the original site and adjacent lymph nodes on the right side of his neck, Dimon added.
"Importantly, there is no evidence of cancer elsewhere in my body," he said, adding that he expects to start treatment soon at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York, an 8-week process.
"I have been advised that I will be able to continue to be actively involved in our business, and we will continue to run the company as normal. Our Board has been fully briefed and is totally supportive," Dimon stressed.
He is not the first CEO to face cancer while staying at work. AIG's Robert Benmosche, 69, did the same in 2010.
JPMorgan's disappointing first quarter this year followed a 2013 marred by huge legal settlements over JPMorgan's mortgage practices prior to the 2008 financial crisis, a major trading scandal in the bank's London office and other controversies.
