4G phone services debut
China Mobile is offering for the first time 4G mobile phone services in Guangdong Province, Shanghai Daily learned yesterday, while Shanghai is expected to have the fourth-generation services next year.
China Mobile users in the southern province can apply for 4G SIM cards without changing numbers in several of its outlets. The country’s top mobile carrier will also sell phones made by Samsung and Huawei that support the country’s own 4G technology called TD-LTE.
Shanghai will get 4G services next year because the telco said it needs more time to build a 4G network covering the city.
The launch of 4G services in Guangdong is seen as a prelude for the world’s biggest mobile phone market to introduce the next-generation technology. China is expected to issue 4G licenses by the end of this year.
China has carried out 4G network tests in 10 cities, including Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.
