Alipay now available for buying drugs
ALIBABA’S affiliated third-party payment service Alipay said yesterday that it has teamed up with software and information service provider ChinaSoft International to provide a payment option at drug stores.
The pilot program will involve 70,000 pharmacies in several cities across the country, it said, without naming them.
Under the scheme people will be able to pay for items via Alipay’s smartphone app by scanning a barcode.
ChinaSoft has been working with Citic 21 Century to offer online tracking of pharmaceutical sales data to help pharmacies and distributors manage their inventories.
Alipay said it hopes the collaboration will help it expand its profile and presence in the offline market.
