Foxconn hits 3 Japanese firms with patent suit
TAIWAN-BASED technology giant Foxconn yesterday said an affiliate has filed a lawsuit in the United States against three Japanese companies for allegedly infringing on its patents.
MiiCs & Partners, which assists patent holders to design, develop and manage patent portfolios, filed the suit in Delaware’s Federal District Court, accusing Toshiba Corp, Funai Electric Co and Mitsubishi Electric Corp of infringing on “a number of” Foxconn’s thin film transistor patents, it said.
The case is the latest between tech giants as they battle to protect new inventions in the highly competitive sector.
Apple and Samsung are currently locked in a global patents war with each accusing the other of stealing aspects of their smartphone designs.
The patents in the Foxconn suit apply to LCD display products, such as monitors and TVs, it said without elaborating.
