Huawei sees 10% rise over next 5 years
HUAWEI Technologies Co, China's telecommunications equipment maker, targets a 10-percent compound annual growth over the next five years by growing its smartphone and cloud computing sales.
"Information and communications technology will continue to grow, with new opportunities coming from cloud computing" as well as from faster smartphone sales, said Guo Ping, Huawei's co-chief executive officer.
Guo sees Huawei's network equipment sales to tumble 60 percent of the company's sales by 2017 from 73 percent last year after the Shenzhen-based privately-held firm drew cyber-security concerns from foreign governments including the US and Australia.
Huawei's sales rose 8 percent to 220.2 billion yuan (US$35.5 billion) last year while net profit surged 32 percent to 15.4 billion yuan, it said yesterday. The results, in line with preliminary results released in January, come at a time when most global telecom infrastructure suppliers face a tough business environment as telecos are not increasing capital spending amid a slow economy.
Huawei's sales in China rose 12.2 percent to 73.6 billion yuan, or a third of its total. Europe, the Middle East and Africa combined saw a 6.1-percent gain while Americas posted a 4.3-percent growth.
