Huawei sees 50% sales overseas
HUAWEI Technologies, which released the Huawei P9 with Leica dual cameras yesterday, predicts that overseas smartphone sales will account for 50 percent of global sales.
Huawei, the world’s No. 3 smartphone vendor, expects to sell 140 million smartphones globally, with half of the smartphones to be sold overseas this year, compared with less than 40 percent in 2015, said He Gang, president of Huawei’s smartphone business.
“We have rapid growth and gained market shares overseas,” He said. “Sales in many countries doubled in 2015.”
Huawei’s market shares hit 15-20 percent in overseas markets, such as Spain and Poland, He said, citing figures from research firm GFK.
The P9 that is equipped with the Leica dual cameras, the first of its kind in the industry, are expected to “reinvent smartphone photography,” said Oliver Kaltner, chief executive of Leica Camera AG.
Huawei aims to sell at least 10 million P9 models globally. They started selling yesterday from 2,988 yuan (US$462).
