Sourcing fair hopes to seal more business

The International Sourcing Fair expects “more deals” to be sealed as signs point to a recovering global economy, according to one of the organizers yesterday.

“The global demand has warmed up with the economic recovery around the world,” said Xie Zhen, one of the organizers and former general manager of the Shanghai International Sourcing Promotion Center. “We expect more deals will be signed at the fair this year.”

The rising global demand has fueled a strong performance for China’s trade in the past two months. Exports rose 7.2 percent in August after a 5.2 percent gain in July, while imports rose 7 percent last month.

China’s exports are likely to continue an upward trajectory in the coming months because of improvements in overseas markets, particularly in developed economies, analysts said.

The fair, a major event organized by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai government, will be held at the ShanghaiMart from tomorrow to Friday. The number of visitors may increase over 20 percent.

More than 511 international buyers have registered for this year’s fair and over 8,000 suppliers are expected to attend, exceeding the numbers last year, the organizers said.
