More land earmarked for housing projects
LAND parcels totaling 218,000 hectares will be offered for housing constructions across the country this year, and nearly 80 percent of them will be designated for affordable housing and small to medium-sized apartments, a senior official with the Ministry of Land and Resources said today.
That compared to 184,700 hectares originally planned for 2010 and 126,300 hectares that were finally supplied last year, Liao Yonglin, the ministry's land use management department chief, told a press conference in Beijing.
Of the total plots to be released this year, 171,300 hectares or 78.6 percent will be for affordable housing developments and small to medium-sized homes, a rise of 2 percentage points from 2010. Of this, land for affordable housing will reach 77,400 hectares, compared with last year's 32,400 hectares.
The country's land watchdog will continue to implement the central government's policy to curb rapidly-rising home prices by increasing land supply for housing development with a particular focus on the supply of affordable homes, Liao said.
China earlier announced a target of building 10 million units of affordable housing this year.
In Shanghai, a total of 1,200 hectares of land will be released for housing development this year, an increase of 100 hectares from 2010, the local land watchdog said last month.
Plots designated for affordable housing and small and medium-sized apartments will reach 840 hectares, according to the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Planning and Land Resources.
