New hangar just for business jets
SHANGHAI’S airport authority will build a new hanger facility for business jets at Hongqiao airport by 2017 to meet rising demand, officials said yesterday.
A specialized maintenance facility is also planned for Pudong airport, Lu Xun, deputy general manager with Shanghai Hawker Pacific Aviation Service Center, told a press conference ahead of the 2015 Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition that opens today. But he didn’t detail a timeframe for completion.
The city’s two airports handled 4,792 takeoffs and landings by business jets last year, up 6.8 percent from 2013 and taking up about 25 percent of the total volume in the country.
In the first quarter of this year, the number of business jet takeoffs and landings rose 6 percent year on year, said Lu.
About 40 of the world’s most popular business jets will be displayed at the three-day exhibition at the center, and some 170 aircraft makers, including business jet giants Dassault Falcon and Bombardier, will participate.
Dassault Falcon will debut its three-engined Falcon 7X long-range jet in China.
