District expands help for disabled

Jiading has been expanding employment channels for the disabled and providing personalized employment services.

Jiading has 30,000 residents with disability certificates, including 6,426 disabled people of working age, of whom 99.3 percent are employed.

Anting Town’s disabled persons’ federation has offered training on the operation of e-commerce trading platforms.

Zhang Wenyan, for example, is a 38-year-old patient suffering from myasthenia, which causes abnormal muscle weakness. She opened her first online flower shop on the e-commerce platform Caimai.com. Caimai was established by Anting’s disabled persons’ federation and a third-party network company.

Jiading has launched 26 job fairs and “employment assistance month” activities targeting the disabled group this year.

Meanwhile, qualified enterprises will be encouraged to establish a vocational internship base for disabled youth and provide positions for disabled people across the district.

In September, Jiading established the first district-level vocational internship base for disabled youth at Shanghai Xuncheng Electrical Technology Co Ltd. Internship opportunities for financial positions have been offered with one-on-one guidance.

This year, more than 5 million yuan (US$811,000) has been allocated for various disabled employment support funds. Next year, the district will continue to improve employment services, according to Jin Yun, deputy director of Jiading District Disabled Labor Service Office.
