Local hospitals in agreement on hospices
Yingyuan Hospital in Jiading District is collaborating with Jiading Central Hospital and Renji Hospital to provide clinics and hospice care for cancer patients in the district.
Yingyuan is one of the first hospitals with a hospice care service in Shanghai.
A woman surnamed Zhang is one of the beneficiaries of the program. Zhang, who has bowel and breast cancer, used to get up at 4am and take a 6am bus to Shanghai Cancer Center Affiliated to Fudan University to have injections.
Now, Zhang can have injections at Yingyuan with a prescription from Renji Hospital, the prescribed medicines coming from Jiading Central Hospital.
“I only walk for 10 minutes to the hospital and have the injections instead of rushing to the hospital in downtown, which saves a lot of time and trouble for me. It’s great,” Zhang said.
“To provide convenience for patients like Zhang is the aim of our collaborative program,” said Jin Jingxian, director of the palliative care department of Yingyuan.
Doctors from the three hospitals will check the patients and provide diagnosis for those with complex symptoms at Yingyuan, benefiting hundreds of patients so far.
