Making the countryside great again

Jiading is accelerating implementation of its rural revitalization strategy to improve agriculture, beautify the countryside and make farmers prosperous.

At Xiangyang Village in Anting Town, old houses are being renovated while asphalt roads replace the muddy roads. Overhead utility lines, once an eyesore, have been buried underground.

The fields are full of flowers. The original drying machine room has been transformed into a huge viewing platform.

What is happening to Xiangyang Village? A commercial complex is being built to house cultural tourism enterprises. The former farmers’ houses will be transformed into cultural and creative studios.

In the first phase of the project, there will also be residential quarters, shops, restaurants and a farm camp. Here is where young people can start their businesses or enjoy as a leisure destination with their families.

Fan Junliang, head of the project, said the tourist center was almost complete while the greenery and signboards in the village have been updated.

A number of high-quality cultural tourism programs will be taking place at the “backyard” of both Jiading and Kunshan.

Unlike the southern countryside, the northern countryside of Jiading has always been dominated by agriculture.

With government-enterprise cooperation, sustained growth of the economy has been realized, optimizing the development of the northern countryside.

By deepening cooperation with Shanghai Land Group, Lianyi and Lianhua villages in Huating have established their own companies.

The village-owned companies invested in the joint venture by pricing the land use right while Shanghai Land Group invested with cash. Shareholders receive a portion of company profits in relation to the number of their shares. Open market operation is adopted to ensure the interests of all.

In Lianyi Village, residences were concentrated to free up nearly 10 hectares of land which will be the cornerstone for a strong agriculture in the future.

“We are exploring the industrial model of harmonious coexistence to realize the diversification of rural economy, provide more jobs and switch the mode of rural labor force employment, and increase farmers’ incomes at the same time,” said a Huating Town official.
