More service stations to benefit outdoor workers

Outdoor workers can now use an additional 75 service stations in Jiading District, according to the district civilization office.

At the service stations, workers can rest in air-conditioned rooms and access facilities such as freezers, microwave ovens, umbrellas and electricity chargers. Hot water and common medicines are available 24 hours a day free of charge.

There were 173 service stations in the district by the end of 2018. Today there are 248.

“With the service stations we can take a rest, drink water and feel so good with the attention from society,” a street cleaner surnamed Zhou said. Zhou used to work from 5am to 10am each day.

The facilities and equipment in the service stations are checked and managed by designated people, who ensure a clean environment and working facilities and equipment.

On Nanxiang Old Street, the service stations are equipped with TVs and air-conditioning.

At some hospitals, the service stations can provide medical services, including blood pressure measurement, medical consultation, disinfection and bandaging by healthcare professionals.

Some stations will be updated and equipped with Wi-Fi, power banks, first-aid kits, newspapers and books.

The new stations are in areas with a relatively large number of outdoor workers such as street cleaners and deliverymen, where no service station has been available.

Across the city, about 10,000 workers use 1,200 service stations every day, with 81 percent street cleaners, 5.6 percent food deliverymen and 5 percent parcel deliverymen.
