Technology driving garbage collection

Xuan Zhenfei, a garbage truck driver with Jiading-based Yingxin Sanitation Co, starts work at 8am. He checks collection spots on the onboard computer and arrives at the first local neighborhood at 8:30am to collect wet garbage.
An hour and 45 minutes later, his truck is laden with 48 barrels of garbage of about 2.9 tons from 10 neighborhoods to enter Jiading Renewable Energy Utilization Center.
The whole process is uploaded in data form to the Xincheng Road Community intelligent monitoring platform for garbage sorting.
At present, the platform covers 36 neighborhoods in the community. It monitors collection, transport and disposal in real time to ensure the accuracy of garbage sorting.
“After the launch of the platform, data of wet garbage, dry garbage and other garbage collection as well as the accuracy of garbage sorting is displayed on the screen,” said Wu Wei, deputy general manager of Yingxin Sanitation Co.
“In addition to meeting the company’s internal vehicle scheduling, it can also provide data reference for government waste classification planning and decision-making.”
Jiading also has a policy of “no classification, no collection and transportation” of domestic waste, installs video surveillance and GPS positioning equipment in the garbage truck, and employs a third-party regulatory agency to carry out instant monitoring of the whole process.
In the future, Jiading will gradually build a diversified supervision system with the participation of law enforcement department, local businesses, the people’s congress, political advisers and professional monitoring services.
The ultimate goal of garbage sorting is to raise the value of garbage and make the best use of everything.
It coincides with the construction of the “brand new utilization ring of renewable resources” put forward by Jiading and aims to turn “misplaced resources” into useful resources and promote continuous development of the green economy.
